Throughout my life, particularly after sharing about my professional background and adventures, people (often) shake their heads and say, “You are a BADASS!” I typically laugh, mostly because, well, how else is someone supposed to respond to that?! It’s a little awkward… It has taken me years to be comfortable with people having that image of me and, now, I not only embrace it, I own it.
For me, “Badass” defines women who are courageous, self-assured, and go after what they want vs. being stymied by what others consider socially acceptable or “appropriate”. Badass women tend to be bold, brave, and have our own opinions – imagine that! We don’t rest on our laurels; we are always looking for the next challenge.
There’s a book by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, a Pulitzer Prize willing historian, entitled, “Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History.” Badass women do not always behave and that is a good thing. We may not be angels but we are fierce, loyal, and do not let too much get in our way.
Oh, and we Badasses typically love other “Badass” women, like Laurel.
